Plan of the Day 25 October 2021

10/25/2021

Drill: Monday, 25 October 2021.
Time: 1900, arrive early to set up.
Uniform: NUW Type III
Plan of the Day link.
  1. Tonight we will have some fun and celebrate the Great Pumpkin.
  2. We will still start with Quarters. Mr. O’Brien will take my place as I mentioned last week I will not be there.
  3. Uniform is still NWU type III, Type II if still not equipped with Type III or civilian attire if you have neither. Cadets may de-blouse during the carving event. Tastefuladditions to the uniform in the spirit of Halloween are allowed. No physical alteration of the uniform allowed and should be easily added and removed. Festive uniform changes will occur only after quarters is over.
  4. After quarters, cadets will team up in groups of 2 or 3 to carve pumpkins. The pumpkins should be carved in the spirit of sea cadets, Navy and/or military themes but still have that Halloween feel.
  5. There will be a judging contest of all the pumpkins. The top pumpkins will receive a credit toward Sea Cadet spirit wear or accessories found on www.vanguardmil.com. Amounts to be determined based on quality of pumpkin carving.
  6. Once the competition is over, cadets will clean up and then enjoy a little Halloween fun in the break room.
  7. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ALL THE ROOMS AND PASSAGEWAYS BE CLEAN AND FREE OF PUMPKIN DEBRIS. Please ensure a good field day is done.
  8. Some cadets still need uniforms and will be outfitted as the opportunity arises.
  9. We need a finalized the roster for the swim meet by the end of the drill, to include the stroke each cadet will swim. We need one league cadet team and one sea cadet team. Each cadet can only swim two individual events or one individual event and the relay.
  10. We need a list of all attending the veterans parade as well.
  11. Winter training opportunities are starting to populate in Homeport on the Training List. If interested, start the process early as billets will go fast. For those who have already signed up, please bring in any forms previously forwarded with proper signatures. Others signing up tonight will need their parents to stay after drill to sign the NSCTNG 001 form.
  12. For those who need to take/retake the PRT, please contact your chain of command to see if you can complete early ahead of drill. Mr. O’Brien will determine if possible.
  13. Have fun but make sure we get the above tasks completed as well and the spaces are clean. See you next week.
This week in Naval History
  • 26 Oct 1944 - The Battle of Leyte Gulf ends with Navy carriers and U.S. Army Air Forces aircraft continuing the attack on the retreating Japanese. Three enemy light cruisers and several smaller ships are lost during the day. At a distinct disadvantage at the beginning of the Leyte Gulf fight, the Japanese Imperial Navy loses so many ships and men in a few days of battle that it could play only a minor role during the remainder of World War II.
27 Oct 1922 - The Navy League of the United States sponsors the first celebration of Navy Day to focus public attention on the importance of the U.S. Navy. The date is selected because it is Theodore Roosevelts birthday. Navy Day is last observed Oct. 27, 1949. In the 1970s, Adm. Elmo R. Zumwalt works with the Navy League to define Oct. 13 to celebrate the Navy.
