Plan of the Day 25 April 2022

Drill: Monday, 25 April 2022.
Time: 1900.
Uniform: NWU Type III or PTU (if taking the PRT).
Always check the Plan of the Day and Plan of the Month links for last minute information and full details.
  1. We will drill at DEALEY Division and make final preparations for Flagship. A make-up Physical Readiness Test (PRT) will be held for those cadets excused from last week's drill and for any cadet that wishes to retake the PRT  if not passed.
  2. Uniform is NWU Type III or Physical Training Uniform (PTU) if taking the PRT. For those new cadets that do not have the PTU yet, bring "gym clothing" to run in. Bring any type of sweats as it might be chilly tonight. Bring a towel and a bottle of water if taking the PRT.
  3. Bring your IDs as we will collect them (if not collected already) to keep them safe until Flagship. If you have misplaced your ID please inform your chain of command as a replacement one will not arrive in time for Flagship.
  4. Training opportunities are populating through the list accessible via Quarterdeck and the new parent portal. Recruit Training (Sea Cadet Boot Camp) and League Cadet Orientation (League Cadet Boot Camp) offerings are few at this time. But... Our local Sea Cadet Boot Camp will be 1-9 July at Cape Cod, MA (same place as Flagship) and League Cadet Boot Camp will be 25 Jun - 2 July in Niantic CT. The listings are not available yet to register but flag those dates if your cadet can attend at that time as it is recommended as their primary choice. I understand that summer plans are complex and if those dates don't work, we will help you find a training that works. See below the only "boot camps" listed so far. All trainings are accessed via Quarterdeck for both cadets and parents.
  5. Parents, the new parent portal is live. Register at here if you have not already.  At this time only the primary parent/guardian can have an account. A users guide is available as a link below.

Plan of the Day 18 April 2022

Drill: Monday, 18 April 2022.
Time: 1900.
Uniform: Official Physical Training Uniform.

  1. We will drill at DEALEY Division for the official semi-annual Physical Readiness Test (PRT). Uniform is PTU (see picture). For those new cadets that do not have the PTU yet, bring "gym clothing" to run in. Bring any type of sweats as it might be chilly as we are warming up for the PRT. Bring a towel and a bottle of water.
  2. I do not have a fixed schedule yet for Monday and hope to be there but as usual the XO and LPO/DPO will take charge of the drill if I'm not there.
  3. Stamford Fire Fighters will be on hand to train the firefighting team for Flagship. Training will start as early as 1800 to take advantage of sunlight. Those doing firefighting training will conduct the PRT later in the drill. If you are on the team please reach out to your squad leaders and let them know if you can arrive early so we can firm up the start time fore the fire fighter.
  4. Time permitting we will continue practice for Flagship Competition. Bring your IDs as we will collect them and keep them safe until Flagship. If you have misplaced your ID please inform your chain of command as this will be the last day to order a new one to arrive in time for Flagship.

  • 18 April 1942 - The Doolittle Raid begins with 16 Army Air Force B-25 bombers launching earlier than expected from USS Hornet (CV 8), approximately 650 miles off Japan, after being spotted by enemy ships. It is the first attack by the U.S. of the Japanese mainland since Pearl Harbor. Most of the 16 B-25s, each with a five-man crew, attack the Tokyo area, with a few hitting Nagoya. Embarrassed, the Japanese revise plans and six weeks later attack the American carrier group near Midway sooner than expected.
  • 18 April 2009 - USS Stockdale (DDG 106) is commissioned at Naval Construction Battalion Center Port Hueneme, Calif. The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer is named after Vice Adm. James B. Stockdale.

  2. I have to work again (sorry) this Monday. The XO and LPO will take charge of the drill.
  3. We will practice for Flagship Competition. Please fill out and bring in the Flagship Liability Form of not done already. This is the last drill to confirm attendance.
  4. PRT is on 18 April. Also we will have Stamford Fire Fighters on site to help with the Flagship Fire Fighting Competition prior to the PRT.

Good afternoon,   
With the close of the foundation scholarship process for two and four-year colleges, we are happy to announce the opening of the scholarship process for the CAPT Henry J. Nyland, USN (ret.)Career and Technical Education Scholarship. Any questions can be directed to scholarships@seacadets.org.

Eligibility Criteria  
  1. Applicant must be enrolled as a Sea Cadet having attained the rate of at least E3 and remained enrolled through at least May 15th of their senior year of high school.  Applicant must have completed a high school diploma with at least a 2.0 GPA.

  2. Interest in attending and enrolling in a Career and Technical Education program leading to a certificate or associates degree in one of the following areas:
  • Health Sciences
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
  • Manufacturing
  • Logistics
  • Hospitality
  • Agriculture
  • Construction
  • Maritime 
  • Law enforcement/fire protection
  • Or any other like programs, or trade school disciplines i.e. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, culinary arts, EMT, etc  incurring cost to the cadet.
  1. The certificate or degree granting institution (e.g. Community College, trade school or other certificate granting institution)) must be a regionally accredited institution in good standing with the accrediting body.
Scholarship  
  1. Three (3) Sea Cadets will be selected to receive an award of $1,000 each to attend a Career and Technical Education program. The funds may be used to for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Funds will be disbursed directly to the educational institution.
  2. 100% of the award will be disbursed to the institution upon receipt of an acceptance letter from the certificate or program granting institution acknowledging enrollment of the cadet into the program. If the cadet leaves the institution prior to the end of the first semester they will be required to reimburse the scholarship fund for 50% of the award received.
Application Supporting Materials  
  1. Cadets will be required to complete the application in its entirety.
  2. Cadets must have one letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator, guidance counselor or instructor outside of the immediate home-schooled family in support of their application.
  3. Cadets must have one letter of recommendation from their Unit CO.

US Coast Guard AIM Application and Information Sessions - deadline to apply is 15 APR 2022

We are excited to share information about the U.S. Coast Guard's Summer Academy Introduction MIssion (AIM) program. There are two town hall information sessions being held to learn more about it: tonight, 07 APR and next week, 12 APR. See message below to register for those information sessions.  
Please note the deadline to apply is 15 APR. **IMPORTANT** information: AIM is a two-part application process, step one - cadets need to apply directly with the USCGA using the link in the announcement below, and step two - cadets also need to apply internally with USNSCC using this link, https://usnavalseacadet.formstack.com/forms/uscg_aim_application . If cadets have already been accepted into the AIM program for 2022, they still need to register in Magellan for the corresponding trainings, which can be found in the Parent Portal (for parents), on Homeport (for cadets), or in Magellan (for volunteers).

It can be found on the cadet's ID. We have found some errors in birthdays so use the one on the ID and then we will correct it. Hopefully Mrs. Arena and Mrs. Allen have signed up and can provide more guidance. This is a new product and expect some bugs. Training is slow to update and no recruit trainings (boot camps) have been populated yet. There is another parent portal training late on Monday and I will put the Zoom link in the POD email (it's pacific time so starts at 10pm EDT). There should be a users guide out shortly. Please see the Spring/Summer 2022 Training Guidance linked below.
