Plan of the Day 24 May 2021

 We will drill in person Monday, 24 May at 1900. Uniform is NWU Type I or Type III.
  • COVID-19 Temporary Policy: Everyone should have received an update form NHQ regarding updated policy and intake protocols. Continue to bring your masks. We will discuss the changes at drill. Check Homeport > Policy (COVID-19 Temporary Policy and Intake Protocols) for all the details. Updated attestation and intake forms are linked below. Temperature checks are no longer required. Mask are still required for unvaccinated personnel. To that end we will continue to wear mask until we can identify those cadets and adults. Please bring a copy of your vaccination form so we can update service records.
  • Memorial Day: Drill will primarily focus on final preparations for Memorial Day Parades.
  • Dress Uniform: If your uniform needs last minute fixes, please bring it to drill.
  • PRT: For those who have to take or retake the PRT, contact you chain of command to schedule. You are still able to take one at home.
  • Plan of the Month: May will be a busy month. Please check the POM for all the events.
    • Stamford Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade - Sunday,  30 May
    • New Canaan Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade - Monday, 31 May.
    • DEALEY Divsion Graduation - Monday, 7 June at SYC. 
  • Training: Summer training opportunities are populating quickly. Please look often for training availability. Once you have found the training you want, let us know and we will initiate the registration. Be aware, that unless the training is virtual you will need a current passing PRT in order to register. May of the trainings have rank and other requirements. Please look closely. Watch this video for more information on how to find the training you want and how to interpret the information. We will provide the filled out Request for Training Authorization form. Do not download and fill it out as the video may suggest.
  • Regional NSCC Recruit Training (RT): Though not yet posted in the Magellan Training List, NSCC Recruit Training (boot camp for sea cadets) for our region is tentatively scheduled on 15-24 July at Camp Edwards, Cape Cod, MA, same place as Flagship. Please look at your schedule to see if that works. If not we have to look elsewhere for RT.
  • Regional NLCC Orientation, Basic (NLO): Though not yet posted in the Magellan Training List, NLCC Orientation (boot camp for league cadets) for our region is tentatively scheduled on 26 June - 3 July at Camp Nett, Niantic, CT. Please look at your schedule to see if that works. If not we have to look elsewhere for NLO.
  • ​Seniors: All seniors to submit essays, resumes and FAFSA forms for scholarship consideration ASAP. Visit the scholarship page for full details.
This Day in Naval History
  • 24 May 1943 - USS New Jersey (BB 62) is commissioned. During WWII, she participates in the Battle of the Philippine Sea, Battle of the Leyte Gulf and supports the Iwo Jima and the Okinawa Campaign in the Pacific theatre. New Jersey currently serves as a museum ship at Camden, NJ.

 We will drill in person Monday, 17 May at 1900. Uniform is NWU Type I or Type III.
  • Memorial Day Events Preparation: Tonight's drill will concentrate on preparing for our Memorial Day Parades.
  • Uniform Inspection: Cadets that have not had a Dress White Uniform inspection, please arrive in your dress uniform and bring NWUs to change into later. Please keep working on any discrepancy. Cadets will have the opportunity to update their ribbon rack.
  • PRT: For those who need to retake your PRT, you can conduct a PRT at home or take one at the next available drill with permission form the chain of command. Remember you cannot attend training unless you have a current passing PRT.
  • Annual Inspection: Please bring any cadet record forms requested. The most important form is the Report of Medical Examination. Form link: PDF or MS Word. No cadet may attend training without this form and we are past the deadline to have 100% compliance for our annual inspection.
  • Plan of the Month: May will be a busy month. Please check the POM for all the events.
    • Thank you to all who planted flags this past Saturday at Saint John cemetery. We placed approximately 1500 flags at veterans' graves.
    • Outstanding job by the color guard team for the Stamford Yacht Club commissioning. The club was very impressed!

  • 17 May 1987 - USS Stark (FFG-31) is struck by two Iraqi Exocet Missiles in the Persian Gulf, killing 37 Sailors and wounding 21.

Our principal speaker will be Vic Mercado, retired Rear Admiral and more recently former Assistant Secretary of Defense for strategy, plans, and capabilities.

Flag Planing at Saint John Cemetery

Thank you to all who participated in planting U.S. flags at veterans graves. Approximately. 1,500 flags where placed at Saint John Cemetery. We located specific graves of PVT Angelo DeMasi (WWII casualty),  SGT Vincent Horan (WWII, Pearl Harbor casualty) and SSGT Homer Wise (WWII Medal of Honor recipient).

  • 15 May 1800 - The frigate USS Essex, commanded by Capt. Edward Preble, arrives in Batavia, Java, to escort United States merchant ships. During her journey, she is the first U.S. Navy warship to cross the Equator and the first U.S. man-of-war to double the Cape of Good Hope.

  • Uniform Inspection: Tonight we will conduct a Dress White uniform inspection. This is to prepare our uniforms for Memorial Day events and graduation. 
  • PRT: For those who need to retake your PRT, you can conduct a PRT at home or take on next drill on 17 May. 
  • Annual Inspection: Please bring any cadet record forms requested. The most important form is the Report of Medical Examination. Form link: PDF or MS Word. No cadet may attend training with out this form and we have a local deadline of 14 May to have 100% compliance for our annual inspection.

 We will drill in person Monday, 3 May at 1900. Uniform is Physical Training (PT) Uniform.
  • PRT: Tonight's drill will be dedicated to the Physical Readiness Test (PRT). The PRT page is updated to include an easy to read PRT standards document at the top of the page. Please bring y0ur official USNSCC PT gear. It includes the PT shorts and PT shirt. The sweats are optional. This is a required item to bring to training and technically required when conducting unit PRT events. If you do not have the official PT gear, please wear similar civilian items. Don't forget to wear approbate running shoes. We might have light rain starting at the time of our drill. Please wear some outer clothing to stay warm and dry. Additionally, bring a towel to lay down on the grass for curl-ups. Hydrate well before arriving. We'll stay on top of the weather and if we have to, we will postpone for a week.
