Our normal entrance will be unavailable until construction is done. We will enter from the main gate where families will have to request access for the gate to open. So far it has not been an issue and the complex knows we will enter that way for the foreseeable future. Until construction is done we will have to find an alternative place to conduct the PRT. We've updated our Directions page with instruction on how to enter during drill.

  8. Facilities: Had meeting with Stamford WPCA (Water Pollution Control Authority) Administration Manager regarding security and the gate we use to enter and exit. WPCA seemed OK for us to continue procedures as normal and to make sure we lock the gate when we are done, which we have always done. While there, discovered that a new roof will be placed on our shared building. This will no effect on our operations and will happen during the summer when we are not drilling. But... they received a grant to remediate the building in the inside that will most definitely impact our operations but a welcome event that will hopefully make our spaces more habitable. Will have to investigate further to find out scope and when it will happen.
  9. Our "free" WiFi has gone "down". Talked with network operations and now it seems we have to pay for a license for a new router with the cheapest option being $400 for five years. Will investigate with WPCA to see if they were paying for us in the past. Internet access needs to conduct division business. More to follow but if unable to get anywhere we may need to purchase that license.

Connecticut Council NLUS Monthly Report January 2023
  1. Participated in the Stamford Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony. Provided the riffle detail and salute for the first time in Stamford. See our webpage for pictures and more.
  2. Participated in Bridgeport's Basket Brigade in November which provided thanksgiving baskets to needy families and veterans. See our webpage for pictures and more.
  3. Provided color guard and riffle salute for Stamford's December 7th Remembrance Day Ceremony. See our webpage for pictures and more.
  4. Provided sponsorship of wreaths and participated in Wreaths Across America at Bedford Union Cemetery on 17 December. Cadets laid wreaths at veterans graves and solicited 161 wreath donations. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of wreaths will return to the division to help fund our program. Petty Officer Arena, our LPO led a cadet driven service project with little assistance from staff. See our webpage for pictures and more.
  5. We held our end of year holiday gathering at the Stamford Senior Center where cadets were recognized for the achievements throughout the year. A limited gathering was arranged with light dessert and refreshments.
  6. Eight (8) Cadets attended Winter training. Five (5) Cadets attended recruit training (3 in FL, 1 in SC and 1 in IL). One cadet attended POLA and 2 cadets attend EMT training in RI. Petty Officer Martin was selected to staff the EMT training.
  7. We returned to drill after the winter holidays on 9 January. Further drills will concentrate on preparing for our Annual Inspection in March and the Flagship Competition in April.
  8. Two former cadets who graduated in 2020 are asking for further scholarship assistance from the Finneran funds. Shelomi and Evania Soljour are great candidates for further Finneran scholarship. There are funds remaining, they meet the profile and have the need. I recommend awarding $2000 to each. They received the same after they graduated two years ago. See their requests here (Shelomi) and here (Evania).
  9. Unit Totals of 25 with 6 League Cadets and 19 Sea Cadets. We have 7 registered adults but only 4 actively participating every week.
